Acute care is a level of health care in which a patient is treated for a brief but severe episode of illness, for conditions that are the result of disease or trauma, and during recovery from surgery. Acute care is generally provided by a variety of clinical personnel using technical equipment, pharmaceuticals, and medical supplies.

Examples of acute care diagnoses include, but are not limited to, congestive heart failure, kidney stones, bronchitis, pneumonia, dehydration, and gastrointestinal issues. Acute care may also include wound care and pain management.

Skilled care refers to skilled nursing or rehabilitation services provided by licensed health professionals like nurses and physical therapists and ordered by a doctor.

Skilled Care is medically necessary care that can only be provided by or under the supervision of skilled or licensed medical personnel.

Examples of Skilled Care include physical therapy, wound care, intravenous medication administration and more.

Hospice care is for people who are nearing the end of life. The services are provided by a team of health care professionals who maximize comfort for a person who is terminally ill by reducing pain and addressing physical, psychological, social and spiritual needs.

Osmond General Hospital provides room, board and nursing care for hospice patients on a private pay basis and works with area hospice care providers for plans of care, medications and supplies.

Osmond General Hospital provides a limited number of beds for those in need of nursing home type care but choose not to be in a nursing home for reasons of their own. This service can range from a couple week stay to permanent residency. OGH does not accept Medicaid or private Long Term Care insurance. The daily rate is dependent upon the level of care the patient requires
